Florence Ave: Hit & Run

a 4 year old was killed here, in a hit and run about a week ago. there were helicopters everywhere that day. watching the news i found out the driver had parked his truck on crockett street(where the car is at) and left the scene walking...you can still see a huge stain on the road pointing to the teddy bears :(

looks like a comet landed in downtown LA

*if my camera actually worked it would actually look like a comet landed in LA aka a construction site down First street

so i spent the whole weekend on the blue line/red line/downtown shuffle so today i was really tired. really tired. i have a funny story to tell but out of respect(?) for the parties involved i'm
not going to say a word. all i have to say is...kids get your shit together! now that i think about it the story is not funny but more like anger inducing.

anyways, i'm waiting for my new camera in the mail and i just bought a table saw. so that means no more blurry pictures and hopefully more work. in the mean while, why are all the bars red?

p.s. i actually know why.

3 videos Mr. West?

so me and the sister had been trying to figure out if there was a second part to the Kanye West video "Flashing Lights"...you know, what the hell happens after the girl hits him with the shovel? apparently 2 more videos that have nothing to do with the first one. i guess Mr. West didn't like how the first two came out so he made another one. i personally like the first one the best.

the latest one, 3

this one reminds me of the movie Gia , 2

my favorito, 1

so the other day a kid tells me he feels bad. i ask him whats wrong, he then tells me he can't go number 3. what the hell is number 3?

fondue making outside a gallery... on the floor

i don't know, the current state of things made me get up and leave LA (at least for the weekend). i was also really curious about this whole Gulabi Gang benefit show. funny thing is once i was in SF i didn't want to do anything. i almost didn't even in go to Oakland but whatever... it was a fun, weird weekend. here is some of that:

give all your money to this man! all of it!

music with Gulabi Gang photos

why were these girls making fondue on the floor outside the gallery? well at least they weren't cooking crack...

fighting for equality with sticks

so i made the art for the flyer of a benefit show at Fort Gallery...you should go. all the money is going to a group of women who live in India who call themselves the Gulabi Gang. they wear pink saris and fight for equality...with sticks. the images and article by Sanjit Das, from Vice Magazine, will be on display(click on the link to read the article). and duh, there will be live music from: Two Gallants, The Conspiracy of Venus, and the Deciders. so i guess i'll be up north next week...maybe. i really need to buy a saw so i don't know. the show is this Saturday May 3, 8pm in Oakland.

i feel like shit but whatever...here are some photographs from Bank Gallery's latest show, Panopti(con) curated by Martin Durazo. show ends April 26, now more pics...

i think the rumor or rather the believe(or just fact) that there are more hot girls in LA is hella true...sorry. i never seen so many hot, in-shape, well dress girls in one art show. wait, i have but it was also in LA.

this one just glowed and i couldnt stop staring...

Enrique Castrejon, i really really like this one...

more art, or ways to make me paranoid(not actual title) by Chris Tallon.

close up of the previous before.

my favorite color scheme.

fat cat at the after party...

and beautiful boys...i mean men

unfortunately, i didnt shoot all the art so if you want to go see it all go to the show before it closes...i gotta go now and watch girlfriends.

bus riding is hard to do

sooner or later i will get the hint that LA is not SF and you cannot take public transportation to get around. my crappy little digital camera broke down. it no longer focuses anything, among other things. so i went to two art shows last night. one in downtown and the other one in echo park.

while riding around on the bus i realized that the whole city looked hella empty and... creepy. creepier when that bum hiding behind some bench looked like he was straight out of a zombie movie.

blurry ass art and tons of wine.

my dog, i gotta go and try to get some art done.

cuz i hella love photography right now

i really, really, do...again. so if i take your picture, over, and over again dont get all weird on me. i'll give you a print if the pic is good. but if it really bothers you should tell me. and here is a photograph of ms. Nan Goldin, by ms. Nan Goldin. she is one of my favoritas so you should buy me one of her books for my birthday.

today i went to the zoo. i hate the zoo. i did see the king vulture, so that was cool.

while accepting a job offer

i had a crazy dream last night. i walked into what seem like a football arena and a gallery owner greeted me. he then told me to take a walk with him. when our walk was over he looked at me and told me everything was going to be okay and that i was a fun girl...

i think i have a job. its in skid row working with kids, right around where i took this pic. i say i think cuz its not a definite yes. my head hurts.

while looking for a job

since i was in the area it didnt hurt to see some art, right? here is some work by the Seventh Letter Crew in the Robert Berman Gallery at Bergamont Station in Santa Monica. the show closes Feb 12, a fun fact i thought you should know...

here are some snippets

i really like this one

in conclusion, i couldnt help but to feel at awe while standing in the middle of the gallery. it reminded me of the times i spent in cathedrals, and couldnt help but to look up, and stare at the awesome massiveness of it all. now of to MOCA before © Murakami ends...

ever get the feeling you're getting old?

this definitely has to be my favorite pic of the kids from The Smell.

Last time I was in downtown LA I felt really old, and I am not (or maybe I am?). Then I realized that maybe I should start developing more “mature” tastes but then after running into a line of yuppies trying to get in a club I realized I was to “young” for that. Point is, downtown isn’t what it used to be baby! But of course everybody knew that already except for me…remember when The Smell was the only thing around? And the girls from Mika Miko weren’t legal alcohol drinkers? I do. I also remember all the fun times I had there, and will have...The Smell is 10yrs old kids.

photo by Dan Monick, as it appears on PaperMag's article on The Smell and Mika Miko. Read it...photo used without permission blah blah blah. Intellectual property rules!

Archive This!

So I once had a friend who told me that drawing and using materials that werent archival was a waste of time so you could imagine my surprise when I walked into a museum and saw some guy drawing on the floor with water. Fine, it was really a video projection of some guy drawing on the floor with water which I guess defeats my first sentence but... somehow, some way I couldnt shake off the feeling I had seen this before. Sure, it was interesting watching the drawings disappear as the water evaporated but...this was hella contrive! or maybe I am just getting old...or been to too many art shows. Yet, I must admit it was way more interesting watching some kids and their parents see some video projection of some man getting hanged in the previous room. Then again thats something an artsy fartsy person would say...
