Finally, made it to MOCA to see their 30th blah blah show. I saw a bunch a stuff I hadn't seen since I was like...18yrs old. Above, RM 669 by Doug Wheeler definitely one of my favorites. I feel how they are acting whenever I step inside it.

I was surprised to see how the children reacted to Nan Goldin. They were in awe by her photography. They had a whole room for her stuff... We still need to make it to the Geffen, maybe soon.

Mission: school

my teeth hurt or the nerve ending that used to be attached to a tooth is hurting... a few months ago i was asked in LA what the differences were between LA and SF art. always the one to never like answering such questions i simply said, "there is more drawing in SF art" and quickly proceeded to running away. i may or not be right but when i think of SF art, drawings, and mixed media come to mind. you know, the whole Mission School bit insert goes here, whatever that means. so read this article (or not), Mission: school by Johnny Ray Huston, in it he talks about "Fer-ma-ta", the 37th annual UC Berkeley MFA graduate exhibition and Alicia McCarthy...and of course about art in the bay area...to bad i missed it. my favorite quote of the article:

"Here, as in other shows, her drawings are on already used surfaces: construction or packing paper and slabs of wood. The use of found material, while welcome in an ecological sense, has become cliche in Bay Area circles and beyond in the indie pop Found magazine culture".

i guess i'll be making my second trip to san jose this month to commemorate Lesly's graduation and see Camille Rose Garcia's work. yes, killing two birds with one stone and get fed too...like actually real food. meat! but today hopefully Mission Art Walk...(doubt) or dance party. and i know my birthday just passed but would it be too much to ask for, for a camille rose garcia painting for my birthday. pretty please? and i found out yesterday that people have bigger memories than i though...he he he. i better learn to remember people's name and be a good little fake politician. and that the world is super fucking small.

Sensacional! Mexican Street Graphics

After the vivienne westwood "ceremony" i headed to the yerba buena center for the arts in SF where they had "sensacional:mexican street graphics""celebrates the vernacular design of Mexico, where a rough, idiosyncratic beauty arises from a mom-and-pop street economy". Or in another words, street signs, a giant luchador, posters, novela book covers,etc. It was really funny...here are some stolen shots. Shhhh...dont tell the ybca.

the only bad part about the exhibition was that they had this video showing in the same space which was weird because in the other room especially dedicated to just videos. i guess they figure since it had to with mexicans it was okay...lame. But this is still good.

Vivienne Westwood Stalker

It was Vivienne Westwood weekend. Went to the "Couture and Cocktails: Exhibition Opening Party for Vivienne Westwood" friday at the de Young...people were overdress. The show ended and we ended up at Delirium...It was too early and we were too dressed up to say goodnight.

The next day I saw Dame Westwood get her honorary doctored from the Academy of Art. I have to say she made me laugh till no end. She reminded me very much of Mr.Lydon.
She pretty much said there is no talent out there, to stop buying stuff, and she never compromised anything because she always did things her way. I like her.
